FTP Is History: The File Manager

It used to be that every small change to your website's files needed an FTP program, credentials and some patience. With the PlaCeMS File Manager, you do it right in your browser – from any device.

Your Web Space in the Browser

The File Manager shows your website's folders clearly. You click through the directories, and a path bar always shows where you are. For every file, you see at a glance how big it is.

What You Can Do

  • Upload: new files straight into the folder you want
  • Download: single files or whole folders as a ZIP archive
  • Rename and delete files and folders
  • Create new folders
  • Set permissions when a file or folder needs different access rights

Double-Protected

A tool that can delete files needs good protection. That's why the regular admin login isn't enough for the File Manager: you also have to enter a separate configuration password. Even someone who got hold of your backend session still can't reach your files.

Clear Boundaries

The File Manager works exclusively inside your web folder. Areas outside it, such as protected key files or the server's system directories, are off-limits. Even manipulated paths in the address can't break out of the permitted area.

When You Need It

For day-to-day work with PlaCeMS, you'll hardly need the File Manager – you manage content, images and modules in their own modules. It comes in handy when you want to swap a single file, quickly back up a folder or check something without starting an FTP program.

Better Safe Than Sorry

Before making bigger changes to files, a backup is worth it. How to do that with one click is shown in the Backup module.
