Back Soon: Maintenance Mode

Sometimes a website needs a break: a big redesign, new content that should go live all at once, or an update during which visitors shouldn't stumble into a half-finished page. That's what maintenance mode is for.

One Click, and the Website Takes a Break

In the backend, you switch maintenance mode on with one click. From that moment, all visitors see a friendly maintenance page instead of your website. It takes effect instantly – no need to regenerate anything. You switch it off just as quickly.

You Keep Working

While visitors see the maintenance page, the backend stays fully accessible. You can change content, install modules and regenerate pages in peace. When everything is ready, you switch maintenance mode off, and the new website is online in one go.

Bilingual and in Your Own Words

You write the title and text of the maintenance page yourself, in English and German. Visitors automatically see the version in their browser language. You can announce when the site will be back, for example, or how people can reach you in the meantime.

Works Even When Nothing Else Does

The maintenance page is deliberately a completely standalone file. It doesn't depend on any other part of PlaCeMS. Even if something goes wrong during a rebuild and no pages can be generated, maintenance mode reliably shows its page. The redirect happens directly at server level – fast and robust.

When Maintenance Mode Makes Sense

  • during a redesign or a new template
  • when moving to a new server
  • when lots of content should go live at the same time
  • during bigger updates or when restoring a backup

Safe Way Back

Ideally, combine maintenance mode with the Backup module: back up first, then switch on maintenance, then rebuild. If something goes wrong, the old version is back with one click.
